HC emphasises “voter wisdom,” rejects request to penalise opposition trio

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday rejected a request to charge Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal, and Akhilesh Yadav for allegedly “making false and misleading statements intending to damage the image and credibility of the country,” emphasising that voters should not be taken lightly.
HC rejected stepping in, stating that the intelligence of Indian voters should not be undervalued since they are aware of who is misguiding and directing them.

The suit cited news sources and said that Gandhi, Kejriwal, and Akhilesh had made false and deceptive claims about the government allegedly forgiving debts of Rs 16 crore to a select group of businesspeople.
Petitioner Surjit Singh Yadav, a self-described social activist and farmer, begged the court to order the Centre to file a complaint, bring charges against these three leaders, and order various political organisations and social media sites that these leaders were affiliated with to take down these remarks from their digital and social media platforms.
A bench made up of Justice Manmeet PS Arora and Acting Chief Justice Manmohan said that anyone who feels wronged will take necessary legal action. tnn
