Health Minister: There is no proposal for centralized NEET counseling

According to Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, there is currently no plan for centralized NEET counseling for undergraduate or graduate medical programs.

In response to a query from Kavitha Malothu, a member of parliament for the Mahbubabad seat, Mandaviya made the declaration today. Malothu questioned if the National Medical Commission (NMC) had suggested a centralized counseling mechanism for UG and PG admissions in the medical institutions to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The Health Minister reiterated in response to the same question, “There is no provision for centralized counseling for undergraduate or postgraduate medical courses for the academic year 2023–24. The current system of allocating seats to different quotas has not been altered.

For seats in undergraduate (UG/MBBS) and postgraduate (PG) medical programs in India, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) supervises the counseling process. The counseling procedure is determined by a student’s NEET UG and NEET PG results.

According to information provided by the government, counseling for undergraduate programs covers 15% of seats available under the All India Quota, 100% of seats at Deemed Universities, and 100% of seats at all Institutes of National Importance (INI). Similar to undergraduate programs, the counseling for graduate programs includes 50% of All India Quota seats, 100% of seats at Central Institutes/Universities, and 100% of seats at Deemed Universities. The separate administrations in the states conduct the counseling for the state quota seats in UG and PG medical programs.

In the meanwhile, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has published the 2023 National Eligibility Cumulative Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET PG) counseling schedule. On the official website, mcc.nic.in, applicants may see the schedule and submit an application for counseling. According to the timetable, the registration period for the first list will begin on July 27 and end on August 1.
