Hisar: Leaders of SKM and Kapp urge the release of agricultural activists

In addition to the dismissal of police proceedings against farmer activists, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) today requested the release of Haryana residents who had been detained at the Data Singh Wala border during the farmers’ protest.

at Jind district, the SKM met at Narwana town, with Joginder Singh Nain serving as the chairperson. The SKM leaders also called for the quick reopening of all highways and the removal of police officers who had been camped out in nearby schools. They also demanded an investigation into the grave charges of corruption made by the previous governor, Satyapal Malik, and denounced the searches carried out against him.

As to Inderjeet Singh, the head of SKM, the group has also decided to gather farmers from all across the state for the Delhi Mahapanchayat on March 14.

In response to reported police abuses against Punjabi farmers, the SKM also called for the resignations of the Haryana chief minister and the Union home minister. In observance of the passing of young farmer Shubhkaran Singh at the Khanauri border, there was a two-minute period of silence.

Inderjeet Singh said, “To ensure maximum mobilization of activists for the March 14 mahapanchayat, we decided to launch joint district-level jathas.”

The release of farmer activists Akshay Narwal, Praveen Madina, and Virender Koyel—who were detained during a standoff between the farmers and the police at the Data Singh Wala border on February 13—was the subject of a second meeting called by representatives of various khap panchayats and Bhartiya Kisan Sangharsh Samiti in Jind.
