In Kolkata, Modi opens the country’s first underwater metro line

On Wednesday, the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade segment of the Kolkata Metro’s East-West route was officially opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The 4.8-kilometer segment is India’s first underwater metro service, having been built at a cost of Rs 4,965 crore.

The Howrah metro station, which is located 30 meters below ground level, would be the deepest in India as part of the recently opened Est-West Metro stretch.

Along with students, the prime minister rode the metro after the inauguration.

In addition, the Prime Minister dedicated a number of Rs 15,400 crore development projects in Kolkata.

Modi also turned off train service on the Taratala-Majerhat Metro segment and the Kavi Subhash-Hemanta Mukhopadhyay portion during his visit.

Notably, in the last week, PM Modi has made two visits to West Bengal.

The prime minister will also speak at a public rally later in the day at Barasat, which is located in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, which is home to Sandeshkhali.

Modi will give the keynote speech at a women’s rally in Barasat, deliberately scheduled to coincide with International Women’s Day. The speech will emphasize women’s empowerment and highlight Sandeshkali concerns.

It is anticipated that the rally would increase awareness about Sandeshkhali. Additionally, it is anticipated that a few women who attend the event on Wednesday will have the chance to speak with the prime minister personally about their complaints.
