In the 2020 doctor suicide case, AAP MLA Jarwal was found guilty

A Delhi court held Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Prakash Jarwal and his accomplices Kapil Nagar and Harish guilty on Wednesday in relation to a case of aiding and abetting suicide involving a doctor in south Delhi in 2020.

Dr. Rajendra Singh, 52, committed suicide at home on April 18, 2020. A six-page suicide note that the police found linked Jarwal, Nagar, and Harish to the event. Jarwal is the representative for the north Delhi Deoli seat.

Jarwal was found guilty by Rouse Avenue Court Special Judge MK Nagpal of many IPC sections, including 306, 34, 120-B, 386, 506, and 511. In accordance with IPC Section 506, Harish was found guilty.

On March 13, the court will hear arguments over the length of the punishment. After their conviction, the two may get a maximum term of ten years in prison.

The doctor had accused Jarwal of pushing him to take his own life in his suicide note. Based on the message, the police had filed an allegation of extortion and aiding and abetting suicide against Jarwal.

Similar to Jarwal, Singh was active in the tanker water delivery sector and has been affiliated with the Delhi Jal Board since 2007. The MLA and his allies, according to the police, were extorting money from Singh and other owners of water tankers.

According to the FIR, Jarwal and his crew had harassed and threatened Singh.

The money extracted from the owners of water tankers was allegedly channeled via the brother of the MLA, Anil Jarwal, and invested in a number of homes and farms in Delhi, Gurugram, and Jaipur, according to the police report detailing their investigation.

Jarwal’s attorney, Ravi Drall, said, “During the trial, a number of witnesses became hostile, and the claims made by those who were cross-examined were proven false. The court has found him guilty even after this. We will appeal the ruling at the High Court because we have complete trust in the legal system.

Speaking to the media, Jarwal said he would have been exonerated if he had joined the BJP. He emphasized that nothing against him had been established throughout the trial. He went on to say that he had complete trust in the legal system and that he intended to appeal the conviction at the High Court.
