It’s Easy! “This Time, Let’s Vote for Another Pawar”: Ajit Pawar Seek Aid for His Wife in Baramati

Ajit Pawar, the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, sent a message to voters in Baramati on Tuesday, urging them to support his wife in the Lok Sabha elections by electing Sunetra, Ajit Pawar’s daughter-in-law, instead of Supriya Sule, Sharad Pawar’s daughter, who they have already elected three times.

In the Pune district’s Baramati Lok Sabha seat, Ajit Pawar’s wife and Sharad Pawar’s daughter-in-law Sunetra, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate, will run against her sister-in-law and current Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule. Sharadchandra Pawar, the candidate of the NCP, is Sule.

Since there are two candidates from the same family in the Lok Sabha elections, you have been with the Pawars for a very long time. However, you should now consider your options. You must be considering who to vote for and who to endorse. Speaking to party workers during a program in Baramati, Ajit Pawar said, “It’s easy, since you have been with the Pawars for so long, just go and vote for (another) Pawar (referring to Sunetra Pawar).”

Notably, the Pawar family’s hometown is Baramati, where Ajit Pawar is an MLA.
“By voting for Sunetra Pawar, people won’t be breaking the tradition of supporting the family,” the Deputy Chief Minister said.

“You elected the son in the 1991 Lok Sabha elections, meaning me,” Ajit Pawar reminisced about the 1991 elections. Afterwards, you chose Pawar Saheb to be the father, and then you cast your votes for Supriya Sule to be the daughter for three terms in a row. Simply choose Sunetra Pawar, your daughter-in-law, now. Everything will be in harmony.”

He said that “by doing this, everyone, son, father, daughter and daughter-in-law will be happy.”
Ajit Pawar joked that his opponents’ family members were like “mushrooms that grow in rains, but after polls, all these will go on foreign trips,” but that they are now all employed. My relatives, you did not want to work for me throughout my political campaigns. Will you continue to work after this election? There won’t be anybody there, only Ajit Pawar and his party workers. Family members only work part-time.”

He said that he is at now “exercising restraint while speaking, but is he decides to speak openly, it would be difficult for many of these people to move in public or show their faces.”
Maharashtra’s 48 Lok Sabha seats will be up for election in five stages between April 19 and May 20. On May 7, there will be voting in Baramati.
