Jaishankar Participates at Important Global Crisis Response Group Meeting

On Friday, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres presided over an important meeting of the Global Crisis Response Group (GCRG) that External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar virtually attended.

Jaishankar said in a Twitter post that he had emphasized the efforts made by India’s G20 leadership at the conference in a number of areas, including those for the approval of an action plan to speed up progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

On July 7, the Ministry of External Affairs announced that India has accepted the invitation extended to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by the UN Secretary General to join the GCRG Champions Group.The UNSG established the GCRG in March of last year to address urgent and crucial global concerns such problems with food and energy security.

The Champions Group is in charge of monitoring the GCRG’s activities. Jaishankar tweeted that he had “represented India in the Champions Meeting of the Global Crisis Response Group chaired by UNSG @antonioguterres.”

The external affairs minister added that he also emphasized India’s commitment, while holding the G20 presidency, to promote equitable, affordable, and inclusive energy transition pathways and to implement a common framework for the suspension of debt service in a predictable, timely, orderly, and coordinated manner.
