Karnataka HC suspends the investigation against the BJP leader Nadda’s alleged violation of the election code

The investigation into the model code of conduct breach charge brought against BJP national president J P Nadda during the state’s assembly elections has been postponed by the High Court of Karnataka.

In May 2023, Nadda is said to have made a speech at a party rally in the Vijayanaraga town of Harapanahalli in which he reportedly enticed votes.

Nadda’s criminal appeal, which asked that the case against him be dropped, was considered by a single judge bench of Justice M. Nagaprasanna, who on Friday issued a temporary order halting the investigation and postponed the hearing till June 21.

The Harappanahalli Police received a complaint from representatives of the Election Vigilance Division alleging that the speech was given in a way that threatened and lured the electorate.

He had broken the Model Election Code of Conduct, it said.
To have this probe halted, Nadda has petitioned the High Court.
