Kerala’s Chief Minister Demands That The Centre Withdraw From The BJP’s UCC Move Due To Electoral Motives

On Friday, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the BJP’s “electoral agenda” is what is driving the debate over the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and asked the Central government to back off from enforcing it.

The decision by the Centre, according to Vijayan, a prominent leader of the CPI(M), can only be seen as an effort to carry out the “majority communal agenda of ‘one nation, one culture’ by eradicating the cultural diversity of the country.”

The plan to implement the Uniform Civil Code, he stated, “should be abandoned by the Central Government and the Law Commission.”
