Key pledges fulfilled, BJP focuses on development pillar

NEW DELHI: The second meeting of the BJP’s 27-member manifesto draft committee was presided over by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday. Meanwhile, PM Narendra Modi and other prominent figures are expected to unveil the “Sankalp Patra” poll manifesto for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections next week, which will prioritise the “Developed India” plank that emphasises the empowerment of women, farmers, youth, and the impoverished.

“The BJP central office hosted the second meeting of the manifesto committee today. The goal of this conference was to satisfy PM Narendra Modi’s commitment to constructing a developed India via a variety of themes and recommendations, according to Singh, the head of the party’s draft manifesto committee, who wrote on X.

Leading party figures Ravi Shankar Prasad, Vinod Tawde, Radha Mohan Agarwal, and Manjinder Singh Sirsa were present at the meeting, as was panel convener and finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Her ministerial colleagues Arjun Munda, Bhupendra Yadav, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Arjun Ram Meghwal, and Kiren Rijiju also attended. Alongside them were the chief ministers of Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh, Bhupendra Patel and Keshav Prasad Maurya.

According to sources, the party is expected to reveal details about its “Viksit Bharat” pledge in its election manifesto by 2047, when the nation will be celebrating 100 years of independence. This aligns with the PM’s claim that his first two terms were used to lay the groundwork for a developed India and make it the third largest economy in the world.

Garib (poor), Yuva (youth), Annadata (farmers), and Naari (women) are the acronyms that the party has created, and it is expected that these groups’ welfare and empowerment would inform the formation of a comprehensive action plan.

The party will unveil its election platform after decades, at a time when its main election promises—such as building the Ram Temple, repealing Article 370, putting the CAA into effect, and implementing the UCC—have been realised. Sources, however, said that the aforementioned pledges could be included in a chapter titled “Jo Kaha so Kiya” (We delivered what promised), which is the party’s newest catchphrase emphasising Modi’s vow to fulfil his commitments.
