Launch of a unique “check and detect” operation by Delhi Police

The Delhi Police reported that during a special check and detect drive that was launched across seven police districts on Friday night and continued into the early hours of Saturday, 119 bad characters (BCs) were held under preventive arrests and a significant amount of stolen or illegal items were seized from them.

According to Sagar Preet Hooda, special commissioner of police for law and order, the special drive in Zone 2 resulted in the arrests of 191 BCs for different offences as a result of preventative measures.

Five externals were also detained for being in the vicinity, according to Hooda. Externalees are persons who have been ordered to remain away from a certain location for a specific amount of time as punishment, as opposed to BCs, who are those who have several criminal charges pending against them.

Police confiscated 28 grammes of heroin, two stolen gold chains, 4,419 quarters worth of illegal alcohol, 72 beer bottles, a stolen motorbike, six button-activated knives and other items from some of these persons who were detained and during the other searches.

The heightened barricading of city routes and greater street checking will continue until July 10, according to the police. Dependra Pathak, the special commissioner of police for peace and order in Zone 1, which consists of eight districts, said that we would “take criminal elements by surprise” and get their field agents acclimated to “a greater level of alertness.”

The incident follows a string of robberies, including the most recent heist by four armed men last week near the Pragati Maidan tunnel. On Monday, approximately 9,000 soldiers deployed at 475 new pickets to begin the special checking and patrolling exercise, and roughly 800 persons were placed under preventative detention.
