Lawyers from Ropar object to the idea of making Anandpur Sahib a district

Attorneys at Rupnagar’s District and Sessions Court have opted to take a leave of absence till March 18 in opposition to a plan to establish a new district under the name Anandpur Sahib. Mandeep Moudgill, president of the Rupnagar District Bar Association, said that it would negatively impact their job since the district of Anandpur Sahib would only be created after the Ropar district’s size was reduced.

He claimed that the bar associations of Balachaur, Garhshankar, and the District Bar Association of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar have also offered their support in this respect, citing the fact that they would be impacted should the new district be established.

Social media users recently shared an official letter from the Ropar Deputy Commissioner office outlining the request to create Anandpur Sahib a district. Despite DC Preeti Yadav’s earlier statement that no such plan existed, the attorneys said they had not yet gotten a formal guarantee to that effect.

In this context, Moudgil added, the members of the bar association will try to meet with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
