Lok Sabha elections 2024: To finalize the first list of candidates, PM Modi conducts a meeting of the Central Election Committee in Delhi

At the party headquarters in the nation’s capital, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is holding its Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will preside over the conference, which is anticipated to finalize the first slate of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections.

Party President JP Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and the chief ministers of sixteen states are in attendance during the meeting. BJP leader JP Nadda gave Prime Minister Narendra Modi a warm welcome when he arrived at the party headquarters on Thursday night for the BJP CEC meeting.

Along with Pushkar Singh Dhami, Yogi Adityanath, Bhajan Lal Sharma, Pramod Sawant, and other chief ministers from Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and Goa attended the conference. Brajesh Pathak, the deputy chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, and KP Maurya came to the BJP headquarters in Delhi as well.

Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Tripura, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Goa, Daman and Diu, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Assam, Chandigarh, and Telangana are among the sixteen states represented in today’s CEC meeting, along with their chief ministers.

Over the following two days, the celebration is anticipated to reveal over 100 identities. According to sources, the names of prominent party figures, such as Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, are probably going to be on the initial list.

Initially, the party could concentrate on states it is independently competing. A few seats that the BJP lost in the 2019 Lok Sabha election may potentially be on the initial list. According to insiders, the BJP has considered candidates for the 14 Lok Sabha seats that it lost in Uttar Pradesh in 2019. Approximately 40 names from the state’s key election might be on the initial list.

All names in western Uttar Pradesh and several seats in the state’s Awadh and Purvanchal areas could be on the initial list. According to sources, the central leadership in Madhya Pradesh received recommendations from the state unit that included the names of notable figures like former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, and senior party functionaries Kailash Vijayvargiya and Narottam Mishra.

There may be fifteen people on the first Rajasthan list, according to sources, some of whom are well-known politicians. Some prominent party officials and workers are also anticipated to be on the Odisha list.

As part of the process of choosing candidates for the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP leadership convened a core group meeting of several states earlier on Wednesday. Party head JP Nadda and Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with leaders about the list of names that the separate state units had proposed.
