Mahila Morcha and BJP Workers Burn Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s Effigy Over the Sandeshkhali Incident

In a protest over the Sandeshkhali event in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters, including Mahila Morcha members of the party, burnt an effigy of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday. Mamata Banerjee ought to be embarrassed of it, according to Bhopal Mayor Malti Rai.

“In the state of Mamata Banerjee, women are tormented. She should be embarrassed that she is a woman serving as chief minister. She has to apprehend those who torture women right now. Rai said, as cited by news agency ANI, “Today we have burned her effigy because Mamata Banerjee is not ashamed of the atrocities on women taking place in her state.”

In the Gwalior district, the BJP activists also held a demonstration at Phoolbagh Square. Abhay Chaudhary, the district president of the BJP, said that the guilty need to be executed. “Across the nation, the BJP is demonstrating against the horrors that took place in West Bengal today. In this case, the West Bengal administration is openly favoriting the situation. “The accused has been apprehended and ought to be executed,” he said.

The primary suspect in the sexual assault and land-grabbing case in Sadeshkhali village, Sheikh Shahjahan, was taken into custody on Wednesday night in the Minakhan region of North 24 Parganas. On the other hand, Shahjahan was detained on January 5 in relation to an attack on Enforcement Directorate personnel, according to the West Bengal Police.

This month, several women in Sandeshkhali saw rallies against Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Sheikh Shahjahan, alleging that the TMC leader had committed crimes against them. Shajahan and his close associates have been charged by women with “land-grab and sexual assault” while under duress. Tension in the impacted area escalated last week when women returned to the streets demanding the arrest of Shahjahan and his close friends while brandishing sticks and brooms.
