Man Arrested in Maharashtra for Kidnapping Teenage Girl He Befriended Online

A 23-year-old male has been detained by the Government Railway Police for allegedly kidnapping a young girl that he met on social media, the GRP said on Monday.

On August 18, the event happened at Kalyan Station in Thane, Maharashtra. The male was eventually apprehended on suspicion of kidnapping the 17-year-old girl, according to a statement from the GRP.

According to the report, the girl, a Dharavi resident of nearby Mumbai, was departing from Solapur in a reserved coach of the Gadag Express.

The youngster was spotted exiting the train and walking by herself across a platform at Kalyan station, according to subsequent police inspection of CCTV video, the statement added.

With the use of her cellphone number and informants, the police conducted investigations and learned that the girl had been abducted by a guy from a hamlet in Karjat in the neighboring Raigad district, according to the report.

Later, a police squad arrived to the accused’s Karjat home where the girl had been seen, according to the GRP.

The girl was saved, and her parents received her. According to the police, Kunal Ravindra Ratambe, the accused, was taken into custody on kidnapping-related allegations.

According to a preliminary investigation, the accused and the girl met on Instagram and afterwards fell in love.

The police noted that the situation is still being investigated.
