Mayor presents GHMC’s proposed budget of Rs 7,937 crore

The draft budget of Rs 7,937 crore for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for the year 2024–25 was announced by Mayor Gadwal Vijayalaxmi on Monday. In addition to the Rs 7,937 crore, an additional Rs 500 crore has been set aside for significant projects of other corporations that have been given to the GHMC, such Telangana Housing Corporation, which is building 2BHK homes. As a result, the whole expenditure, including housing, comes to Rs 8,437 crore.

The meeting was deferred after the draft budget was introduced because MLAs and MLCs wanted the mayor and the GHMC commissioner to attend an all-party meeting on Ramzan preparations at the Secretariat, which would be facilitated by Hyderabad in-charge minister Ponnam Prabhakar. As a result, on Tuesday, the proposed budget will be discussed.

The proposed budget allocates Rs 3,458 crore for revenue expenditure and Rs 5,938 crore for revenue income. With capital receipts of Rs 1,999 crore, the budget has a revenue surplus of Rs 2,480 crore. The total capital investment was estimated to be Rs 4,479 crore, with an additional amount of Rs 500 crore set aside for 2BHK housing units inside the GHMC boundaries.

During the event, the mayor expressed gratitude to the state government for allocating Rs 1,100 crore for Hyderabad in the 2024–2025 state budget. She emphasized Hyderabad’s accomplishments, including its five Swachh Sarvekshan awards, ninth place in the “Clean City” category, and ranking among the top ten cities in the nation.

According to Vijayalaxmi, Rs 380 crore has been approved for nala renovation under the SNDP, Rs 380 crore for market development, and Rs 1,640 crore for the building of flyovers, underpasses, and road improvements.
