Mehbooba Mufti: I Was Prevented From Leaving Home Due To The President’s Visit To J-K

Mehbooba Mufti, the leader of the PDP, said on Wednesday that she had been barred from leaving her house because President Droupadi Murmu was visiting Jammu and Kashmir.

The president landed in Srinagar on Wednesday for a two-day trip to the Union Territory where she would attend Kashmir University’s commencement.

Former Jammu and Kashmir state chief minister Mufti said that Murmu’s presence prevented her from leaving her home in the Khimber neighborhood on the outskirts of the city.

“I’m shocked to learn that the sole reason I can’t even leave the home to go to my party office is because the Honorable President is in Srinagar today. The freedom to roam may be taken away at any moment on a whim, Mehbooba said in a post on X.

For Murmu’s arrival, security has been stepped up in Srinagar and the surrounding regions. In and around Kashmir University, security personnel comprising police and the Central Reserve Police Force have been stationed. Modern technology, including drones and CCTV cameras, is being utilized to keep the city safe.
