MP Elections 2023: Important Races To Keep An Eye On While BJP and Congress Square Off

In today’s vital assembly election, Madhya Pradesh voters will determine the future of the Congress and the BJP. Numerous well-known figures are involved in the two parties’ intense struggle for control of the state. The chief minister of the BJP, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, is running from Budhni against the Congress candidate, actor Vikram Mastal, who portrayed “Hanuman” in a television series.

State president of the Congress, Kamal Nath, is running against BJP candidate Vivek Bunty Sahu from Chhindwara, his home district, after defeating Sahu in a 2019 by-election. March 2020 saw the overthrow of Kamal Nath’s administration due to an uprising led by Jyotiraditya Scindia, who later joined the BJP.

All 230 state seats will have voting from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the exception of the Balaghat, Mandla, and Dindori districts, where it will conclude at 3 p.m. In order to capitalize on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity and the strength of the party’s unity, the BJP has not yet nominated a candidate for chief minister. However, Kamal Nath has been presented by the Congress as their front-runner for the top position.
Among the important groups that will see competitive races are:

Raghogarh: The son of Digvijaya Singh’s cousin, Hirendra Singh, also known as Bunty Banna, is a member of the BJP, while Jaivardhan Singh, Digvijaya Singh’s son, is battling to save his “family” bastion. Jyotiraditya Scindia, the current Union Minister of Civil Aviation, convinced Bunty Banna to join the BJP.

Indore-1: Former mayor and party heavyweight Kailash Vijayvargiya of the BJP faces up against Sanjay Shukla of the Congress, who had won the seat in 2018. Historically, the seat has been a BJP bastion.

Narsingpur: Another BJP heavyweight, Union Minister Prahlad Singh Patel, took over for his brother Jalam Singh Patel, who had thrice won the seat. Lakhan Singh Patel, who was defeated by Jalam Singh Patel in 2018, has been nominated by the Congress. One of the main factors in this election is the Patel community’s dominance in the constituency.

Datia: Narottam Mishra, the home minister for Madhya Pradesh, is running for reelection. He is competing against Avdhesh Nayak, a former RSS official, in the Congress. Mishra, a BJP MLA who has served two terms, won the seat by a landslide in 2018.

Lahar: Ambrish Sharma, a BJP candidate, will take against Congressman Govind Singh, who has won the seat seven times in a row. In this seat, the BJP seeks to undermine the Congress party’s advantage.
