Nepalese National Arrested in Delhi for Abusing Air India Crew and Breaking Bathroom Door

A Nepalese individual has been detained on suspicion of assaulting Air India flight attendants and damaging the restroom door. On the basis of the allegation of the cabin supervisor Aditya Kumar, Delhi Police opened the case.

According to the FIR, a passenger on the Air India aircraft that departed from Toronto changed seats before verbally abusing flight attendants in the economy class.

Mahesh Singh Pandit, the passenger, didn’t stop until the pilot in charge issued him an oral warning. After the smoke warning went off, Singh was discovered using a cigarette lighter inside the restroom, according to ANI.

He shoved me back and sprinted to seat 26F as I opened the door in front of the passenger. He shoved and verbally insulted me when I attempted to stop him. He afterwards shattered LAV door 3F-RC. Then I quickly notified the captain, and in accordance with the captain’s instructions, Punit Sharma, another passenger, and I attempted to detain him in accordance with SOP,” Aditya told the authorities.

According to the FIR, ten passengers hurried to assist the crew in restraining the accused after he also attempted to beat several of them.

At the IGI Police Station in Delhi, the complaint has been filed under sections 323, 506, and 336 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 22, 23, and 25 of the Aircraft Rules.

Ten days later, on an Air India trip from Paris to New Delhi, another incident of a “drunk” male passenger reportedly “urinating” on a female passenger’s blanket was recorded.

According to the most recent statistics from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), airlines experienced more rowdy customers in 2022 than they did in 2021.

According to the research, there was a report of a similar event for every 568 flights in 2022 as opposed to every 835 flights in 2021.

Following the laws of the air, abusing others, and being intoxicated were among the worst behaviors shown by such pilots last year. Physical abuse cases were uncommon but alarmingly increased by 61% from 2021 to 2022, with one incidence being recorded per 17,200 flights.
