Odisha Assembly Election 2024: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday unveiled their slate of 112 candidates for the Assembly Elections that are scheduled to take place in a few days. The BJP has nominated Puri’s Jayanta Kumar Sarangi, Cuttack Sadar’s Prakash Chandra Sethi, and Bhubaneswar Central’s Jagannath Pradhan, according to the list. According to the list, Manoj Kumar Mehar will contest from Junagarh, while Odisha BJP head Manmohan Samal will run from Chandabali.

The EC has announced that Odisha’s Assembly elections would take place in four stages on May 13, 20, 25, and June 1. On June 4, after the elections, the results of the assembly vote will be announced.

With 112 out of 147 seats in the 2019 elections, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) won handily, while the Congress and BJP only managed to win 23 and nine seats, respectively.

The EC had previously said that nominations for the first phase may be submitted until April 25 and that candidates could withdraw their candidatures until April 29. Then, May 3 and May 6 are included in the second phase, and May 6 and May 9 are included in the third phase. The last step allows candidates to submit nominations until May 14 at the latest; the deadline is May 17.

Recall that the BJP and Congress only managed to capture 23 and 9 seats, respectively, in the 2019 assembly elections, while the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) easily won 112 out of 147 seats.

There are 147 assembly seats in Odisha, and a party must hold at least 74 of them to take control of the state. This time, the Odisha Legislative Assembly’s term will expire on June 24, 2024.
