On their way back home, 17 Indians were tricked into dangerous labor in Laos: EAM Jaishankar

According to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, 17 Indian laborers who were tricked into taking up hazardous and unlawful jobs in Laos are returning home.

Additionally, he commended the Indian embassy in Laos for their successful casework.

Indian people were forewarned by the foreign affairs ministry on Thursday not to fall for the traps of human traffickers who offer them attractive work opportunities in Cambodia.

The government issued a warning, advising Indians considering employment in the nation of Southeast Asia to properly investigate their potential employer.

“It has come to attention that Indian nationals, lured by fake promises of lucrative job opportunities in Cambodia, are falling into the trap of human traffickers,” claimed the statement.

According to the government, these Indian citizens are “coerced” to engage in illicit activities such as online financial schemes.

“Indian citizens are advised to only go to Cambodia via licensed agencies if they want to work there. It is also recommended that a comprehensive background check be done on the potential employer in Cambodia,” the statement said.
