Over 2 kilogram of gold is seized by customs at the Mumbai airport

At Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai, the Airport Commissionerate, Mumbai Customs Zone-III, has confiscated about 2.08 kg of gold valued at 1.14 crore in three separate incidents, according to authorities, as reported by news agency.

According to the authorities, the seizures took place at the Mumbai airport on Tuesday and Wednesday.

According to Customs, the gold at the Mumbai airport was hidden in purses, door mats, garbage bag wraps, worn clothing, and check-in baggage.

According to a news outlet, on Tuesday, the Mumbai Customs Zone-III Airport Special Cargo Commissionerate found 447 grams of marijuana that had been concealed during importation from Thailand and detained one of the suspects.

The cannabis was hidden inside a pressure washer, according to Mumbai customs officers, said.

A stockpile of contraband, including gold jewelry, rhodium coins, and iPhones, were recovered by Mumbai Airport Customs agents when they stopped an Indian person coming from Dubai earlier this month as part of a crackdown on smuggling, according to an official statement.

The traveler was discovered to be carrying three rhodium-plated coins, five pieces of 24-karat gold jewelry, and cut wire bits totaling 215.00 grams (net). Additionally, two 128-GB iPhone Pros were found in the person’s possession.

According to the authorities, “A gold-cut piece of wire was hidden in Amul butter, hanky, and clothes, while gold jewelry was found hidden on the passenger’s body.” However, the iPhones were hidden inside a purse,” customs officers continued, according to reports.

In a second instance, approximately 3.03 kg of gold worth Rs 1.66 crore was taken into custody by Mumbai Customs in 10 separate incidents over the course of four days at the city’s international airport.

From March 1 to 4, the Mumbai Customs Zone-III shared on its official X account, the Airport Commissionarate of Mumbai Customs discovered the gold hidden in locations including the airplane seat, passenger body cavities, a restroom, butter packets, handkerchiefs, and other clothing of passengers. Authorities said that as they were going through the suspected travelers’ baggage, they discovered money hidden in handkerchiefs, little sachets of butter, and other clothing.

In the meanwhile, the Airport Commissionerate claimed in a statement that the Mumbai Customs department had confiscated about 15.89 kg of gold worth over 8.07 crore in thirteen separate incidents in less than three days, according to news agency.

The Mumbai customs agency posted on X, saying, “On 27 Feb-01 Mar, 24, Airport Commissionerate, Mumbai Customs Zone-III seized over 15.89 Kg Gold valued at 8.07 Cr across 13 different cases.”

The gold was found in a number of hiding places, including as under garments, on people’ bodies, and in the corner piping of a checked luggage.
