PM Narendra Modi announces the launch of an elimination mission in Madhya Pradesh, vowing to eradicate sickle cell anaemia by 2047

The National “Sickle Cell Anaemia Mukti Mission” was introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday at Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh, with the goal of eradicating the condition by 2047.

Half of the world’s sickle cell anaemia patients are in India, according to Modi, who also noted that no significant action had been made in the previous 70 years to eliminate the condition.

“Today, the nation is adopting a significant decision for Shahdol’s homeland. The goal of this resolution is to eradicate sickle cell disease. Our administration is devoted to ensuring the wellbeing of our fellow tribe members…Their lives would significantly alter with the commencement of the “Sickle Cell Anaemia Mukti Mission” in Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh, according to Modi.

Additionally, he said that earlier administrations “didn’t think about tribal people who were most affected by the disease.”

In accordance with a Friday official announcement, the PM will also give recipients cards indicating their sickle cell genetic condition during the occasion. The mission’s objective is to deal with the serious health issues that sickle cell disease poses, especially for tribal groups.

According to Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, a comprehensive strategy has been developed to eradicate the illness. Previous governments “could not do this due to the lack of willingness,” he claimed.

The distribution of about 3.57 crore Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) cards in Madhya Pradesh was also launched by the prime minister.
