Police Requested Age Proof and Grade Sheets in the Bhilwara Gang Rape Case Cousin of the victim claims inaction

In Rajasthan, where a 14-year-old girl was reportedly gang-raped, slain, and then burnt in a coal furnace in the Bhilwara district, complaints of police indifference are becoming louder. Notably, the Ashok Gehlot administration came under fire from the opposition over the event, leading to the suspension of a station house officer, the duty officer, and two constables from active duty.

According to media accounts, the girl’s family is upset with the neighborhood police because they believe they should have acted sooner. When the victim failed to come home one evening from the field, a cousin of the victim allegedly went to the neighborhood police station to submit a missing person’s report.

When she didn’t return even by late afternoon on August 2, the cousin told The Indian Express that he went to the police station with her Aadhaar and ration card to file a missing person complaint. However, the police refused to register the case and demanded further paperwork.

“I have her ration card and Aadhaar card. However, the police did not record our complaint and instead requested documentation of the woman’s identity, including her birth certificate and diplomas from her previous institutions.

According to the story, the victim’s uncle, a gram panchayat member, said that had the police responded immediately to their complaint, the child could still be alive or at the at least, they would have obtained her corpse to conduct funeral rites.

Five days after the girl’s bones and jewelry were retrieved from the place where she was incinerated in a coal furnace, the area is still blocked off.

Since the event, which caused considerable indignation, police, forensic teams, and irate residents have been often visiting the scene.

The location was also visited by a group of BJP MPs, who promised to write a report and deliver it to JP Nadda, the party’s leader. The delegation was joined by Mahila Morcha state president Raksha Bhandari and BJP national secretary Alka Gurjar.

However, according to AICC National Secretary Dheeraj Gurjar, no party should engage in politics to seek justice for the victim. He further said that the government, political parties, and social organizations will pay the victim’s family Rs 53.50 lakh in compensation. Additionally, one family member would get a contract position.

In connection with the crime, the police have detained Kalu (25), his brother Kanha Kalbeliya (21), Kalu’s wife Lad alias Jiji (25), Pappu (35), Sanjay (20), Kamlesh (30), and Prabhu (40). Additionally detained were an adolescent and a married minor. The charge sheet in the case will be filed by the police within 15 days, according to the police.
