Along with additional drugs and a significant amount of illegal alcohol, the police have found a sizable stash of contraband in both the city and the rural border area since the model code of behavior was implemented.

The Amritsar parliamentary constituency is divided into 11 assembly constituencies. In addition to 10,7 kg of heroin, 207 mg of opium, 54 kg of poppy husk, 2,920 liters of illegal liquor, and 173 quintals of lahan, the city police commissionerate and the rural police also seized 10 handguns and revolvers, 28 bullets, and magazines.

With regard to the impending elections, a total of twenty inter-district nakas have been established, in addition to eight serving as a backup defense system close to the international border, to prevent the smuggling of weapons, drugs, alcohol, or unaccounted cash.

According to Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, officers were closely monitoring the city borders and police stations to make sure the model code of conduct was followed correctly and to identify and apprehend dishonest individuals.

He stated that fifteen inter-district nakas had been established at different chowks and strategic points where law enforcement and paramilitary troops had been stationed. According to him, the city was being patrolled by cars equipped with CCTV cameras to monitor any illicit activity.

According to Satinder Singh, SSP, Amritsar (Rural), frequent coordination meetings with the district administration and police officers at all levels are being conducted to ensure that the election code is implemented in word and spirit. According to him, social media groups and special control rooms had been established to disseminate information on infractions.
