Political Crisis in Himachal Pradesh: Congress Fires Sudhir Sharma as Party Secretary Due to Cross-Browning in Rajya Sabha Elections

In New Delhi, On Wednesday, the Congress fired Sudhir Sharma, the secretary of the All India National Congress (AICC). The Assembly Speaker disqualified Sudhir Sharma for voting in more than one Rajya Sabha seat. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has fired Sudhir Sharma “with immediate effect,” according to a statement from Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal.

What Sudhir Sharma Had to Say About Being Fired
A statement was written on Sudhir Sharma’s social networking site, X (formerly Twitter), in reaction to this occurrence. They have freed me of the weight as if the whole burden were on my shoulders, the former Himachal Pradesh minister said in Hindi.

“Chinta miti, chaahat gayi, manva beparwah, jisko kuch nahin chahiye, vo hi shahanshah,” is what he wrote, and it says, in essence, that the emperor is the one who has no wishes or anxieties.

Exclusion Due to Cross-Voting
Sudhir Sharma was one of six Congress MLAs who supported BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan on February 27 in the Rajya Sabha elections. A factor in Abhishek Manu Singhvi’s downfall as the Congress candidate was cross-voting.

Himachal Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania dismissed the six Congress MLAs on February 29 for violating the anti-defection statute by defying their party whip.

Contesting Speaker’s Choice
The six Congress leaders—Sudhir Sharma, Rajinder Rana, Davinder K. Bhutto, Ravi Thakur, Chaitanya Sharma, and Inder Dutt Lakhanpal—have appealed the Speaker’s decision to the Supreme Court.

Rajinder Rana, who was upset with the Himachal Pradesh government over the chief minister’s disqualification, said the minister had a “small heart” and a “small mindset.”

He went on to say that we would soon be heading to court over the Speaker’s unilateral decision to exclude these members due to pressure. The legislation has not received adequate consideration. The chief minister of the state is tiny-minded and has a small heart.

Party Integrity Is in Doubt
The scandal surrounding Sudhir Sharma’s misbehavior has cast doubt on the party’s moral character and capacity to maintain discipline among its members. The party leadership is eager to make it quite clear that such behavior would not be accepted in light of the impending Rajya Sabha elections, which are very important.

The dismissal of Sudhir Sharma as the Secretary of the All India Congress Committee sends a strong message to party members about the importance of staying true to the party line and demonstrates the Congress’s commitment to preserving internal harmony and democratic values.
