Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Thursday that the Punjab Police had uncovered an interstate network of illicit opioid manufacture and supply units from pharma companies situated in Delhi and Haryana as part of an intelligence-based operation against pharma opioids.

He said that the event came about as a result of a three-month-long backward and forward linkage investigation by the Fatehgarh Sahib Police into the arrest of a local drug dealer from Haryana named Gaurav Singh, also known as Kaala Ambala. Singh was taken into custody following the discovery of 44 injections of leegesic and 44 injections of avil.

According to the DGP, Fatehgarh Police teams were able to track down and apprehend the maker of illicit pharmaceuticals, identified as Delhi resident Sumit Agarwal. Agarwal is the proprietor of Paksons Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd, which has locations in Bahadurgarh, Haryana, and Rohini, Delhi. The team’s investigation began with the arrest of a supplier.

According to Yadav, the team, which included two drug inspectors and police officers from CIA Fatehgarh Sahib, also raided the pharmaceutical factory in Bahadurgarh in the presence of their local drug inspector. They took several illicit trading, financial, and transport documents, as well as about six lakh unlabeled injections. He said, “This is on top of the 3.24 lakh pills, capsules, injections, and Rs 2.20 lakh drug money that have already been recovered in this case.”

In this instance, authorities have detained seven people so far. The names of the other five people that were taken into custody are Ghanshyam Sharma, Rakesh Kumar, Mohammad Arbaaz, and Mohammad Salman.

Present at a press conference were SSP Fatehgarh Sahib Dr. Ravjot Kaur Grewal and Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ropar Range, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar. They stated that after Gaurav’s arrest, the Fatehgarh Sahib Police raided the illegal pharmacies, chemists, and godowns, which resulted in the arrest of three more suppliers, identified as Mohammad Arbaaz, Mohammad Salman, and Mohammad Sahbez.

According to Bhullar, it was discovered that these three suppliers were buying narcotics from Agra while they were being questioned. The owner of an illicit drug godown in Agra, Rakesh Kumar, has also been taken into custody by the police. According to the IGP, Rakesh disclosed that he is in contact with Ghanshyam Sharma of Loni Dehat in Ghaziabad, a drug wholesaler who operates his own medical agency called Shri Shyama. Ghanshyam was detained on November 2, 2023, which resulted in the detention of manufacturer Sumit Agarwal.
