Rainfall falls in northern India; new snowfall blocks the Manali-Leh route; J&K experiences several landslides

Early on Saturday, rain fell on several portions of Northern India, including Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana; the Himachal Pradesh region had the most recent snowfall.

Because of the significant snowfall, regular traffic was unable to go on the Manali-Leh route beyond Solang Nala towards Keylong. Since Friday night, there has been a lot of snowfall in the Manali, Lahaul, and Spiti regions, causing numerous routes to be closed.

The bulk of the highways in the Lahaul and Udaipur subdivision of the Lahaul and Spiti district were blocked by the heavy snowfall that was seen close to the Atal tunnel on this route.

The Sumdo-Kaza-Gramphu route was closed to traffic in the Spiti area, and the recent snowfall in Lahaul and the Spiti district caused traffic to stop altogether.

As soon as the weather clears, he added, the Border Roads Organization would use its personnel and equipment to remove snow off the Manali-Leh roadway.

In the meanwhile, the vital national route between Srinagar and Jammu was closed on Saturday due to many landslides brought on by the nonstop rain.

The Srinagar-Jammu highway has been closed, according to officials, by many landslides caused by the continuous rains between the Banihal and Ramban sectors.

On Saturday, there won’t be any traffic on the roadway. As soon as the local rain stops, the landslide removal operation will begin, according to authorities.

Additionally, a lot of snow is still obstructing the routes leading to Srinagar, Leh, the Mughal Road, Sinthan, Kishtwar, Bandipora, Gurez, and Kupwara, Tangdhar.

The India Meteorological Department said that although the minimum temperature in the nation’s capital remained five degrees Celsius above average, rain continued to fall in several areas of Delhi.

Generally overcast skies with mild to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected, along with gusty winds throughout the day, according to the Met Office.
