Rains lash J-K, swelling River Jhelum; red warning from IMD

A surge in the water level of the River Jhelum caused by heavy rains in Jammu and Kashmir caused alarm among inhabitants living along its banks and in nearby places.
A resident informed ANI that the water level in the River Jhelum had risen and urged the authorities to take action. “The residents along the Jhelum River’s banks have begun to panic. The government of Jammu and Kashmir needs to step up and assist them. You have seen the increasing water level. “It has been raining nonstop here,” he remarked.

The Srinagar Meteorological Centre had forecast mudslides, landslides, and flash floods for the next two days on Saturday.
“Record-breaking Impact-Based Heavy Rainfall Warning for J&K Many locations in J&K have had rain, and it is still falling. Therefore, there is a high risk of flash flood, mudslide, and land slide. The Srinagar Meteorological Centre tweeted on Saturday, “STAY ALERT FOR NXT 2 DAYS.”
In a tweet sent on Saturday, the meteorological service issued a warning for the next day and forecasted moderate to heavy rain in Ramban, Doda, Samba, and Kathu.
It said that it is expected that South Kashmir would have less precipitation.
In the meanwhile, the Sunday red warning for Jammu and Kashmir was issued by the India Meteorological Department. “Beware of landslides and flash floods; heavy rainfall (115.6 to 204.4 mm) expected on July 9.” Stay secure, IMD tweeted.
The locals have also been urged by the weather department to stay away from water-prone regions and weakly built buildings.
