Rajasthan traffic disaster results in 11 fatalities and 15 injuries; PM Modi announces aid

At least 15 passengers were hurt and 11 people from Gujarat were murdered after a trailer struck their private bus from behind in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district early on Wednesday.

When the accident happened at 4.30 am, the bus was traveling from Gujarat to Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, according to reports.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi sanctioned an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the next-of-kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the wounded, expressing sorrow over the loss of life and sending condolences to the victims’ families.

Governor of Rajasthan Kalraj Mishra, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, and other dignitaries expressed their condolences for the victims.

According to the police, the trailer struck the bus from behind while it was stopped at the Antra overpass in the Lakhanpur neighborhood. On the spot, five males and six women passed away. The trailer ran over several of the people who were waiting next to the bus.

On the side of the road, the corpses were dispersed. According to them, drivers of passing cars called the police to report the collision.

The victims, who were from Dihor in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar district, were taken to a nearby hospital, where 11 of them were later pronounced dead, according to the police.

According to the police control room, the accident claimed the lives of many people, including Arvind’s wife Madhuben, Ambaben, Lallu, Bharat, Lalji, and his wife Madhuben.

Gehlot wrote on X, “The death of 11 devotees on a pilgrimage from Gujarat in the collision between a bus and a trailer in Bharatpur is extremely sad,” expressing his sorrow over the souls lost. The wounded have been sent to the hospital for treatment, and police and administration are on the scene.

“I ask God to provide comfort to the spirits of every person who has passed away and strength to their families. May God grant all those hurt a quick recovery, he said in the Hindi message.
