Under the condition that the colleges get the necessary no-objection certificates or approvals from the authorized authorities, the government has restored the seats.

A day after the state higher education department instructed the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) to delete them owing to violations by numerous institutions, the Karnataka government restored 9,000 engineering seats from the final seat matrix. According to sources, if the decision is overturned, the same number of seats would once again be available for distribution.

Up to 9,000 KCET engineering seats have been taken away by KEA from colleges and other institutions. There were seats available from Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, RV University, and MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology.

According to S Ramya, director of the KEA, the colleges must get the necessary no-objection certificates or clearances from the relevant authorities before the government would restore the seats.

Previously, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) and the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) approved new engineering programs at over 90 institutions without going through the government.
