Security Review Meeting Discusses Jammu and Kashmir’s Impact from the Middle East Crisis

Top Jammu and Kashmiri authorities convened for a security assessment conference at the 15 Corps headquarters in Srinagar, against the background of the continuing Middle East turmoil.

The purpose of the conference was to plan and coordinate security measures after the war between Israel and Palestine. Along with other senior intelligence personnel, Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi, Army Commander, Northern Command, and Advisor to J&K R R Bhatnagar, who earlier served as the DG of the CRPF, convened the meeting.

According to PRO Defence, “many aspects related to the prevailing security situation in the Union Territory were discussed.”

Senior representatives from the armed forces, government, and security services, along with DGP J&K police Dilbag Singh and the Commander of the Chinese Corps, were present at the meeting, sources said CNN News18.

According to PRO, “the Middle East situation was deliberated and various contingency scenarios were discussed.”

Compared to the pre-370 scenario, there haven’t been as many large-scale rallies in the valley over the Gaza issue, although there have been peaceful demonstrations in several areas.

Two Fridays in a row, congregational prayers were prohibited at Srinagar’s ancient Jamia Masjid. According to insiders, this was done in anticipation of pro-Palestine demonstrations that would upset the calm in Jammu and Kashmir. Every time Israel has attacked Gaza, Jamia Masjid has seen skirmishes and demonstrations.

“The subtleties of security in the area concerning the arrival of winter also came up for conversation,” the PRO said.

Annually, security personnel convene before to winter to deliberate on security-related issues and devise strategies to curtail acts of terror.
