Seeking action against Cong Leader Wadettiwar for “defaming” Ujjwal Nikam, the BJP writes to the ECI

The BJP has written to the Election Commission of India requesting that the Congress and its leader, Vijay Wadettiwar, be held accountable for allegedly spreading false information and discrediting Ujjwal Nikam, the saffron party’s candidate for Mumbai North Central and attorney. The leader of the opposition in the Maharashtra legislative assembly, Wadettiwar, allegedly referred to Nikam as an “anti-national” and charged him with withholding information that, during the 26/11 terror attack, Hemant Karkare, the then-head of the Maharashtra ATS, was actually shot and killed by a police officer connected to the Rashtriya Sangha (RSS).

His claims were supported by retired police officer SM Mushriff’s book “Who Killed Karkare?” “The opposition leader should refrain from making such remarks that can benefit the enemy nation as a responsible leader,” Nikam said on Sunday.

Mumbai BJP president Ashish Shelar described Wadettiwar’s remarks as “false and not based on facts,” claiming they were meant to incite emotions and malign Nikam. “We have sent a letter to the Indian Election Commission requesting action against prominent Congress campaigner Wadettiwar as well as against the Congress party for disseminating false information,” he said.

Shelar said that Kasab was given a death sentence for the murder of innocent people after adhering to the legal procedure. When Pakistani terrorists carried out their terror assault on Mumbai on November 26, at least 166 people were murdered and many more were wounded. Kasab was the only terrorist to be apprehended alive by Mumbai police.

Shelar questioned if Uddhav Thackeray, the chairman of the Shiv Sena (UBT), agreed with the Congressman’s comments. The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is made up of the Congress, the Shiv Sena (UBT), and the NCP (SP), headed by Sharad Pawar.

Nikam, a former special public prosecutor, has defended the government in well-known instances like the 2008 Mumbai terror attack and the Mumbai serial bombings. On the BJP ticket, he is embarking on his political career from the Mumbai North Central constituency and will face off against Varsha Gaikwad, the president of the city Congress.
