“Strangled to death,” man; two apprehended

Two days ago, in Mandiala village, which is within the jurisdiction of Chatiwind police station here, a man was reportedly slain by his wife and her paramour. But the event only became public knowledge when the dead man’s brother, 35-year-old Baldev Singh, filed a police report about it.

The discovery of strangling marks on the deceased’s corpse by the victim’s brother and other family members raised questions about his possible murder.

The deceased’s brother, Resham Singh, made the complaint, claiming that his wife Sonu Kaur had extramarital affairs with the village’s Arshdeep Singh. The deceased’s companion was Arshdeep as well.

Both suspects were taken into custody, and an IPC complaint under Sections 302, 201, and 34 has been filed against them, according to Sub-Inspector Kuldeep Rai, the investigating officer. Both of them had admitted to the crime. He said they were presented in court and placed on a two-day police remand to allow for more investigation.

Resham Singh said in his lawsuit that Baldev wed Sonu Kaur around 14 years ago. He said that the couple’s marriage produced three children. Baldev Singh, he said, was a driver who used to travel extensively. He said that she had adulterous relationships with Arshdeep Singh, who would often visit his home while he was away. She used to often argue with the family members since they used to oppose to this. They did not get along well with her.

He said that three days before when his brother Baldev came home from a trip, he was fast asleep. He said that Arshdeep reportedly jumped the wall to enter the residence during this. He said that while they did not pay attention to it at the time, they heard some noise coming from the home.

When they arrived at the residence the next morning to find Sonu Kaur in tears, they discovered Baldev Singh’s corpse lying on the bed. He said that upon seeing the corpse, they were suspicious since it didn’t seem to be a case of natural death but rather a murder. His neck was covered with marks from strangling. He took photos of the marks left by strangling.

He said that when they questioned her about it, she became agitated, provided unsatisfactory explanations, and claimed that he had passed away naturally. He said that in spite of strong objections from other family members, she subsequently incinerated his corpse. In this regard, the family members filed a complaint with the police.

According to Kuldeep Rai, the accused admitted killing him after they were taken into custody. When Arshdeep went into the residence and saw Baldev Singh inside, the two got into a fight as the former attempted to escape. They collapsed into adjacent fields, but Arshdeep used a rope to choke him.
