The 13 persons who have been detained thus far in the investigation into the death of a 17-year-old Jadavpur University student in Kolkata have all been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act by the local police.

The dead was reportedly displayed nude on the second story of the main hostel, according to the police, before he plunged to the ground on August 9 from the balcony. In accordance with the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act of 2012 (POCSO Act), the accused have all been lodged in jail.

According to reports, a special investigating team (SIT) was created by the Kolkata Police’s homicide unit to look into the killing.

The homicide section of the Kolkata Police will now probe the matter, a police official informed PTI. They already control the investigation. Additionally, since the deceased was a minor, we have charged all 13 of the apprehended suspects under the POCSO Act.

Earlier, the West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights (WBCPCR) had pushed for the accuser to be registered under the POCSO Act.

The 17-year-old student from the Nadia area passed away on August 9 after reportedly falling from the main boys’ dormitories of the university’s second story balcony. His relatives said that he had experienced both sexual harassment and ragging.
