Who Is Sunaina Singh? A transgender candidate is going to challenge the BJP for the Dhanbad Lok Sabha seat

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: For the last thirty years, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made the Dhanbad Lok Sabha Constituency their stronghold. Three consecutive terms have been won by the party from the Dhanbad seat in the Lok Sabha elections of 2009, 2014, and 2019.

In the next general elections, Sunaina Singh, a 35-year-old transgender woman who is working to alter the status quo in India’s coal capital, will provide a fresh threat to the governing party.

Sunaina Singh: who is she?
Transgender activist Sunaina Singh, 35, is running for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as the district president of the “Kinnar Maa Trust.” She says the important constituency has become a hotbed of poverty, crime, and corruption, and she wants to change the status quo and turn things around.

Sunaina’s life narrative, which was abandoned by her original parents at birth, is reminiscent of many other transsexual people. After being adopted, the community looked after her and assisted her in obtaining a respectable education. Singh completed her elementary education and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in zoology from Dhanbad’s P.K. Roy Memorial College.

“My parents left me at the hospital when I was born. After that, I was looked after by our community’s state president. I encountered a lot of prejudice when I attempted to get work in Delhi. Sunaina told news agency PTI, “I have ultimately made the decision to go back to Dhanbad and to serve the people of the constituency.

“Want to eradicate poverty and crime from Dhanbad.”
When asked why she wanted to get into politics, Sunaina said that Dhanbad has devolved into a hotbed of crime, corruption, unemployment, and poverty. and she wants to make that right.

“Dhanbad, a significant coal supply, has not seen any development activity. Murder and extortion cases have also increased in this area. I know exactly what I want to accomplish. My goals are to increase job possibilities and strive towards bettering education. Even well-educated young people in Dhanbad struggle to find work due to the high unemployment rate, according to the 35-year-old.

She said that combating the corruption that afflicts the state is a top priority for her, as it is one of the primary factors impeding the growth of the state.

“One of the main obstacles to the state’s advancement is corruption, which I also want to combat,” Singh told PTI.

“People are donating generously to my campaign.”
Anguish at the “inequality against the transgender community” was voiced by Sunaina Singh, who also works hard for the improvement of transgender individuals in the state.

When asked how she intends to pay for her poll campaign, Sunaina said that she has received money from members of the transgender community as well as the broader public, who support her candidature.

Sunaina declared her candidature from Dhanbad on Tuesday. She will run for office on the Naqi Bhartiya Ekta Party (NBEP) platform, which is centred in Uttar Pradesh. Singh said that she had initially intended to run as an independent, but the Chaudhary Zarar Ahmed Naqi-led NBEP subsequently extended an invitation to get a ticket.

2024 Lok Sabha Elections in Dhanbad
But the 35-year-old will have an enormous task ahead of her when she confronts BJP candidate Dulu Mahto. It would undoubtedly take an extraordinary effort to unseat the governing party in Jharkhand, which has had a firm hold on the Dhanbad seat for centuries.

Phase 6 of the seven-phase Lok Sabha Elections 2024 will take place on May 25 in the Dhanbad Lok Sabha constituency, which includes the districts of Bokaro and Dhanbad in Jharkhand. The constituency is one of the state’s 14 Lok Sabha seats.

The INDIA group, the opposition, has not yet declared a candidate for the Dhanbad seat.
