Tamil Nadu: Farmers group advises members not to run for any political office

The Tamilaga Vivasayigal Pathukappu Sangam has urged members to make their own decisions and cast their ballots, without announcing which party it would back in the Lok Sabha election. Furthermore, farmers have been urged by the group not to endorse any political party.

“We are disappointed with both the BJP and the DMK as neither party fulfilled promises made to farmers,” said organization president Esan Murugasamy. The DMK promised to sell coconut oil via ration stores and raise the purchase price of sugarcane to Rs 4,000 and paddy to Rs 2,000, while the BJP promised to treble farmers’ income in 2019. There has been no fulfillment of the pledges. Nothing in the system will change if we abstain from voting. Nothing will happen even if we vote for NOTA. Thus, we’ve urged every farmer to make a decision based on their interests and vote,” he said.

According to him, the group has 12,000 members across the whole state.
