Ten council members in Kitty make it difficult for Congress in Jalandhar

It was a whole new ballgame for the party when Jagdish Raja was elected mayor of Jalandhar in 2017 with 64 Congress council members. Everything was going well for the Congress up until 2022, but once the AAP took control in Punjab, everything changed. Only ten council members are affiliated with the party as of right now; other members have defected. Today, Neerja Jain, Kamlesh Grover, and Lakhbir Bajwa became the third council members to join the saffron party.

Gaining ground strength for the Congress has become a challenging challenge, with just ten councillors remaining. Nevertheless, party members are making every effort to benefit from the election campaign.

Nine of the ten council members are from Jalandhar West, and they have already formed teams and assigned a representative to each booth.

They have been having informal conversations and discussions with the folks to learn about any issues they may be now experiencing or have encountered in the past. Jagdish Samrai, a former party councillor from Ward 78, said, “We try to tell them that it is not our party, but the problems they are facing are because AAP is not doing anything.”

The Jalandhar West constituency council members are working tirelessly to secure a victory.

Former council member Neerja Jain, who joined the BJP today, said, “I did it for my own self-respect, even though I didn’t want to leave the Congress.” I also didn’t think the Congress had any future.
