The BBMP intends to create 20 additional parks in outlying areas

Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) horticulture department plans to create twenty additional parks in the city between 2024 and 2025.

The parks will be built on the outskirts of the city, particularly in the 110 villages that have been added to the BBMP boundaries. These parks would be located in the zones of RR Nagar, Mahadevapura, Yelahanka, Dasarahalli, and Bommanahalli.
The parks will be built on Palike properties that have been walled in but are still unoccupied, according to BBMP officials.
As part of the BBMP’s initiatives to maintain Bengaluru’s greenery, the parks are being built. While the horticulture section will take care of the plants, including medicinal species like lemons, the projects division will handle the fences, paths, and other civil works.
According to a horticulture department spokesman, the city body has a number of abandoned sites that are gated off to keep people out. “We have presented a proposal to the BBMP headquarters, and we anticipate receiving funding in the BBMP budget for 2024–2025. As soon as we get funding allocation, we’ll put together a thorough project report,” an officer said. There are 1,146 parks inside the boundaries of the BBMP, according to authorities.
To be planted are neem and wood apple trees.
In the meanwhile, the BBMP forest wing has made the decision to plant neem, wood apple, mango, and other seedlings around the city, particularly in BBMP parks.
“We are aware that although attractive plants might draw attention, they serve no use. Thus, among other trees, we have chosen to plant neem, mango, lemon, and wood apple. During the festival seasons, the residents may take neem and mango leaves, and the children can enjoy the fruits. Thus, we’ll plant fruits and other trees that the city’s residents will find valuable,” an official said. He also said that the Palike will plant over a lakh seedlings around the city as part of the ‘Green Bengaluru’ project. Neem and wood apple will make up the majority of them.
