The Calcutta High Court has asked the State to explain whether or not it has named lions Sita and Akbar

The two lions that were moved from Tripura to Siliguri’s Bengal Safari Park were named Sita and Akbar, according to reports from Bar and Bench. On Wednesday, the Calcutta High Court ordered the West Bengal administration to document this information.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad has petitioned the Jalpaiguri Circuit Bench of the Calcutta High Court, stating that the name “Sita” of a lioness that was brought from Tripura to Bengal Safari Park here should be altered.

The case brought by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) against the lions’ names would only be taken into consideration by Justice Saugata Bhattacharya, a single court, provided the State has approved the names.

This came after the State informed the Court that the animals lacked names, according to Additional Advocate General Debjyoti Choudhary.

“There is no use in reviewing this petition if identities are withheld. However, we would have to step in if identities are disclosed in this manner,” Justice Bhattacharya said, as per the article.

As a result, the Court ordered the State to document whether it had given the animals names.

The case was then set for Thursday.
