The Congress calls for the BJP to be investigated by the police for “spreading fake news.”

On Monday, the Delhi Police Headquarters on Jai Singh Road hosted a high-level delegation from the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC), who expressed their worries over the BJP’s purported dissemination of misleading material on social media.

The team, headed by DPCC president Devender Yadav, addressed Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora about the problem of “fake and distorted news” that aims to mislead the people and cause division.

“A big national party is trying to harm the harmony in the country,” said Yadav. He recalled the delegation’s previous visit to the Tughlaq Road police station on May 4, during which they officially reported the BJP leaders, their associates, and anonymous individuals for spreading false information with the intent to sow division among the populace and compromise the credibility of the election process.

Yadav said, “The Commissioner has promised us that strict action will be taken in this regard.”

He emphasized that the modified films ought to be taken down right now and that the people who made them should face serious charges. The head of the All-India Congress Committee for Media and Publicity, Pawan Khera, also emphasized the harm that false news does to society’s democratic foundation. “Fake news is being propagated by BJP members. As such information might instigate hate and divide between groups, the Delhi Police should act against it immediately, Khera said.

Using examples of the BJP’s purported disinformation tactics, Yadav discussed how Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s remarks were purposefully misrepresented in order to cause misunderstandings among different demographic groups.

Yadav also expressed worries about the alleged prejudice in the police force. He said that BJP members received special treatment.
