Chief Minister Pema Khandu has declared that Arunachal Pradesh’s ginger, referred to as Adi Kekir locally, handwoven carpets, and Wancho woodwork craft have been granted the Geographical Indication (GI) designation.

A geographical indicator, often known as a GI, is a label applied to goods that are known for being from a certain place and having characteristics or a reputation unique to that place.

“We are happy to announce that Geographical Indication (GI) tags have been awarded to Adi Kekir (Ginger), Handmade Carpet, and Wancho Wooden Craft. A true tribute to the amazing workmanship and rich cultural legacy of our state. Here on Thursday, he added, “Let’s celebrate and promote our unique traditions.” Arunachal Pradesh’s East Siang, Siang, and Upper Siang districts are home to the production of the ginger variety known as “adikekir.”It is renowned for both size and flavor.

The distinctive patterns, themes, and textures of the handcrafted carpets created by Tibetan refugees, who are dispersed across the state, are well-known. The distinctive features of Wancho wooden artisan products include drinking cups with warriors holding heads and tobacco pipes with bowls fashioned like heads.

In addition, the artists create sculptures of dolls, animals, and Lord Buddha. Six Arunachal Pradesh goods have gotten the GI certification so far.
