TN fisherman are ambushed in mid-sea, and pirates plunder them

Chennai: On Tuesday, a group of fishermen from Nagapattinam, Tamil Nadu, were reportedly ambushed and plundered by Sri Lankan pirates when they were in the middle of the sea.

After being hurt in the incident, Murugan, a fisherman, was brought to the government hospital in Nagapattinam.

The assault took place in the Indian Sea, close to the international maritime border, 15 nautical miles off the coast of Nagapattinam.

The pirates stole GPS units and walkie-talkies from the boat, according to Tamil Nadu coastal police.

According to R. Antony Johnson, the head of the Nagapattinam Fishermen Association, Sri Lanka was the home of the pirates.

“We often experience harassment and attacks in mid-sea. Fishermen are often assaulted, whether it is by pirates or the Sri Lankan Navy, which seizes and impounded mechanized boats. Johnson told IANS that the central government needs to step in right now and provide a solution for this serious problem.

According to Johnson, many fishermen are afraid to go out to sea and fish, and families are also concerned about the frequent assaults.

Additionally, fishermen from Nagapattinam are now hesitant to go out to sea, according to Tamil Nadu coastal police officers.

They expected further information.
