“To preserve and safeguard Manipur…”: N Biren Singh requests BJP votes

In order to garner support from the Narendra Modi administration, which is resolving the state’s problems, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh asked the state’s citizens to vote for the BJP in the next elections on Monday.

“To save and protect Manipur, we need central government support, and to gain support, we should strengthen the central government,”  Biren said.

Singh made these remarks while speaking to a group of people at an event put on by the Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (MBOCWWB).

“Under PM Modi, the central government has finished several productive projects in several states this time. The BJP will gain 400 MPs in the next national MP election. To support PM Modi’s administration, we should elect BJP members from here as well since the BJP will return to the Center,” Singh said.

Speaking to the group, Singh went on to say that while the northeastern state is going through a “hard time,” things are getting back to normal.

“Despite all the disturbances, the government hasn’t stopped working for the welfare of the people and the development of the state,”  he said.

“The long-standing demand for an Inner Line Permit System has been fulfilled, ensuring the protection of our indigenous population,” Singh said later in a post on X. Furthermore, the Indo-Myanmar border will be walled, which will be a significant step in boosting regional security, under the direction of Hon. PM Narendra Modiji and the energetic leadership of Hon. Union Home Minister, Shri Amit Shahji. In addition, the removal of the FMR shows our dedication to establishing a more secure and safe workplace for all.”

The chief minister expressed sorrow for the lives lost, property destroyed, and suffering brought on by the current crisis, but said that every effort has been made by the government to prevent a recurrence of such regrettable incidents.

Notably, a high court judgment ordering the state administration to explore adding the non-tribal Meitei population to the list of Scheduled Tribes caused Manipur to descend into a violent frenzy in May 2023.

Ethnic conflicts erupted as a result of this decree. Since ethnic violence in the state initially erupted on May 3, when a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organized in the hill areas to protest against the majority Meitei community’s quest for Scheduled Tribe designation, more than 160 people have been murdered and several hundred wounded.
