Two ranges in Kaziranga National Park will be open to visitors starting on Sunday, but the elephant safari will remain closed till further notice

Assam’s Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve will start to welcome visitors on Sunday. In two of its four ranges, the UNESCO World Heritage Site will be partly accessible. Tourists will be able to take jeep safaris from Mihimukh through Daflang Tower to Vaichamari junction and from Bimoli Tiniali via Donga Tower on the western range.

Both ranges will be closed every Wednesday afternoon for maintenance, according to a senior forest officer. The national park’s elephant safari, which is also renowned for its one-horned rhinoceros, would stay closed until further instruction, he said.

Due to the current weather-related road conditions, Eastern Assam Wildlife Division DFO Arun Vignesh said that until further instructions, travelers would only be permitted to do jeep safaris in the central and western ranges.

The national park was last accessible to the general public in May, when severe monsoon rains prevented visitors from entering any of the reserve forest’s four ranges. Travelers’ access to the elephant safari and vehicle safaris were both discontinued on May 1.

Floods occurred within the park as a result of the monsoon season’s severe rainfall. For the tourists’ safety and to prevent any unfortunate incidents, the forest authorities kept the park closed.
