Wayanad student suicide: three-year suspension for nineteen pupils

The anti-ragging committee of the veterinary institution expelled 19 students, including SFI leaders, for three years amid the simmering scandal over the mob trial and killing of Sidharth JS, a student at the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in Pookode, Wayanad. The police had classified them as suspects in relation to Sidharth’s suicide in the dorm.

The Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University’s anti-ragging committee has taken action against 31 students in accordance with different parts of the UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging, according to college dean MK Narayanan. “Of the 31 students, ten are debarred for a year, and 19 have been barred from taking admission in any educational institution in India for three years,” he said. There have been two expulsions from the college residence hall.

Three additional people were arrested in the investigation on Friday, bringing the total number of arrests made by the investigating police to ten. Ameen Akbar Ali, a fourth-year student from Malappuram and one of the accused, turned himself up before the Kalpetta JFCM court in the evening. ~

The arrests of Asif Khan, K Arun, the president of the college union, and Amal Ehsan, the secretary of the SFI section, were noted by the investigation team headed by Kalpetta DySP Sajeev T N. On Thursday, Asif was apprehended from his Varkala residence, and on the same day, Mananthavady locals Arun and Amal turned themselves up.

Nine more suspects have escaped. Sidharth, a resident of Nedumangad in Thiruvananthapuram, was discovered hanged in the hostel’s toilet on February 18 after being the victim of a mob trial at the boys’ hostel on February 16, according to information released by the police on Thursday.

In the meanwhile, a report from the institute’s Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) has come to light, claiming that a female student had filed a complaint against Sidharth.

Strangely, the day Sidharth was discovered dead, February 18, is listed as the complaint’s filing date on the committee’s investigation report. The complaint was sent to the committee on February 19.

The police squad looking into the matter claimed not to have received any complaints against Sidharth.

In the meanwhile, the dean’s report on the student’s passing has been requested by the Registrar of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences.
