Welfare society protests inactivity in a letter to the president

Three instances at the Rewari Sainik School, including the suicide of a Class 11 student, have prompted the Rezang La Shaurya Samiti, a society for the welfare of ex-servicemen and the families of martyrs, to write to President Draupadi Murmu since the relevant authorities had not taken any action. In order to ascertain the truth, the Samiti have insisted that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) look into each event.

On September 8, 2023, a Class 11 student from the Mahendragarh district is said to have jumped over his hostel’s balcony to terminate his life. He claimed that he was being harassed and that the school climate was bad in a suicide note that was found there. “Teachers are not educators. Not everyone has the ability to work as an officer. To no effect, I begged everyone to get me out of the school. The suicide letter continued, “I am so fed up and cannot tolerate it anymore,” as disclosed by Samiti general secretary Naresh Chauhan.

According to Chauhan, the Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) Sainik Schools Society looked into the situation, but nothing came of it.

“In the second instance, on March 21, the local police filed a complaint under the POCSO Act against a school staffer for showing three pupils pornographic movies. So far in this instance, no one has been taken into custody. The third incident occurred on March 30, when a group of neighborhood people assaulted Administrative Officer Major Avinash Kumar on the school grounds, according to Chauhan.

He said that while nine people—including the head of the school and a sarpanch from the village—had been charged in connection with the attack, the police had not yet taken any concrete action. Nevertheless, the principle and the administrative officer were sent outside until further instructions.

“All of these instances have damaged Rewari Sainik School’s reputation and raised concerns about how well the institution is able to protect the safety of its employees and students. Chauhan said, “Therefore, we have written to the President requesting a CBI investigation into each of these cases.”
