West Bengal: Wife of TMC leader files FIR against NIA agents, claiming violence during raid

The TMC leader’s wife, Monobrata Jana, has filed a formal complaint against NIA officers, claiming that there was misbehavior during a raid on their home. Jana was recently detained. According to her FIR, which was obtained by PTI quoting a police officer, Moni Jana accused the authorities of trying to offend her modesty when they broke into their Bhupatinagar house under the pretense of conducting an investigation.

Two major conspirators, Balai Charan Maity and Manobrata Jana, were detained by the NIA on Saturday in relation to a Purba Medinipur district bomb case from 2022 that claimed three lives.

During the raid, Moni Jana also informed to the Bhupatinagar police station that the NIA personnel had damaged their property.

According to police, a FIR has been filed in response to her allegation, and it is connected with IPC Section 354, which deals with assaults on women intended to offend their modesty.

On the other side, the NIA said that while trying to apprehend the primary suspects in the explosion case, they were ambushed by a crowd. During the incident in Bhupatinagar, a vehicle sustained damage and one officer was hurt.

The NIA investigators have filed a complaint with the Bhupatinagar police station, but as of yet, no one has been arrested in relation to the incident.

The topic is being looked at right now.

The attack on the NIA team reminds us of a similar event that happened on January 5, when an Enforcement Directorate team was assaulted while conducting a search at TMC leader Shajahan Sheikh’s home in Sandeshkhali, North 24 Parganas district. Alleged problems in the public distribution system were connected to this occurrence.
