Will Appeal Gujarat High Court’s Defamation Case Decision to the Supreme Court; Nothing Will Stop Rahul Gandhi from Unifying the Nation

On Friday, the Congress announced that it would appeal the Gujarat High Court’s decision to deny party leader Rahul Gandhi’s request for a stay of execution in the case involving his remark about the “Modi surname” to the Supreme Court. The Congress also declared that nothing would deter Gandhi or the party from their goal of bringing the country together.

K C Venugopal, the general secretary of the AICC’s organization, addressed on Gandhi’s defamation lawsuit and the Congress’s response to the court’s decision while speaking at a party event organized in the Kozhikode district to bring peace to the violently divided state of Manipur.

There was “no surprise” in the Gujarat court’s decision against Gandhi, he said, and he continued, “We still have the Supreme Court as an option.” We’ll see. The Congress party will also look at that possibility.

Soon after Gandhi’s appeal was rejected by the Gujarat High Court, which confirmed the lower court’s judgment as “just, proper, and legal,” he made his remark.

“How can we think that in the present, justice would be served by a state like Gujarat? The group heard Venugopal say, “One thing that all those who draft the decisions and those who lay the groundwork for such verdicts should realize is that Rahul Gandhi is a leader who cannot be shattered by any judgment or disqualification.

Later, while speaking to the media, Venugopal said that none of the rulings would stop Gandhi or the Congress party from working to bring the country together.

“Rahul Gandhi and the Congress will continue the effort to bring the nation’s citizens together… The verdict and penalty were rendered five or six months ago. Was he terrified and quiet?,” Venugopal questioned.

Gandhi, he said, would prevail over all of these problems.

“The lawsuit began when the Adani-Modi connection came to light. We had no idea Adani was that strong,” Venugopal told the media.

Gandhi’s restoration as a Parliamentary member would have been made possible by a conviction stay.

Gandhi was found guilty on March 23 of violating Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 499 and 500 (criminal defamation) in a case brought by BJP Gujarat MLA Purnesh Modi, and was given a two-year prison term.

The MLA had sued Gandhi for criminal defamation after he said, “How come all thieves have Modi as the common surname?” on April 13, 2019, during an election rally in Kolar, Karnataka.
