Will only field candidates for seats that can be won: Alone

Sajad Lone, the head of the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference, said on Wednesday that his organization will only run a candidate in the Lok Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir, where it was expected to win.

After being named the party’s candidate for the Baramulla seat in North Kashmir, Lone made his first appearance before the media. He said that his party was dedicated to fighting the “biggest enemy” of Kashmir, but he did not specify who it was.

“We have not yet made a decision about the remaining two Kashmiri seats. We will put forward a candidate if we believe we can win a seat. If not, we won’t let J-K’s worst adversary win by splitting the votes,” he said.

Lone was formally nominated by the People’s Conference on Monday to fill the Baramulla seat. The party said that they were certain Lone could do well in the Parliament.

Speaking to the party workers earlier, Lone said that the people of Kashmir are ready to usher in a new age of transformation and are putting more and more confidence and trust in the People’s Conference. People are flocking to join our caravan of development and transformation wherever we travel. The public’s strong trust that the People’s Conference would deliver on the promise of fair development and serve as a voice for the voiceless masses in J&K is validated by this wave of support, the speaker remarked.

According to Lone, the party’s leadership will keep working to provide the people in the area the authority and access to possibilities that they are entitled to, improving their quality of life and enabling them to live with dignity.

An ex-leader of the Hurriyat Conference, Lone entered the election in the early 2010s. Also, the party ran a number of candidates in the most recent local body elections.
